The Russo-Georgian Conflict"Situation Report, Russo-Georgian Conflict" by Frederick W. Kagan, Institute for the Study of War
It's not easy to fully understand reason and logic of the invasion of Georgia by Russia. When I watched TV yesterday, showing Sarkozy's visit in Georgia and Russia, somehow I felt relief that it was him representing the European Union and I was glad not to find the Commission's President Barroso on his side (I find it always very odd to see the EU being represented by the Council and the Commission). But there was another story covered by journalists about an action undertaken by the Polish, Ukrainian and Baltic Presidents in support of Georgia, which I felt was very touchy. Especially to find my former colleague from Estonia, Hendrik Ilves, now President of Estonia, smiling at the crowd in front of him waiving flags and shouting "free Georgia".
Kagan is a great analytical mind, he knows Russia well and his insights are very detailed and fascinating to read.
